Sheikh Mahmud Gumi Was The First Translation of the Holy Qur'an into Hausa Language.
31 Years Since The Death of Sheikh Abubakar Mahmud Gumi.
On a day like today, September 11, 1992, Allah swt, accepted the life of the famous Islamic teacher, Shiekh Abubakar Mahmud Gumi.
Here is his brief history.
Sheikh Abubakar Mahmud Gumi was born on the 5th day of November 1922, which coincided with the last Friday of the month of Ramadan 1344, in the village of Gumi, which is now a local government in Zamfara State, and died in on September 11, 1992, in London.
The sheikh is a famous Islamic teacher and Grand Kadi of northern Nigeria. And the teacher He is the father, the leader and the foundation of the Salafism Organization in Nigeria.
His father Mahmud died in 1937 when he was in high school, he got married 3 years after his father’s death in 1941 when he was 19 years old.

Sheikh Gumi, He read and wrote about Islam a lot, he translated the Holy Qur’an into Hausa language and wrote a translation that is the exact translation of the verses in the Holy Qur’an.
King Faisal’s gift
In 1987, Sheikh Gumi won the King Faisal Award for his services to Islam and the translation of the Holy Qur’an into Hausa language.
Many Nigerians expected Sheikh Gumi to build a nice new house to replace his old house in Kaduna, while others expected him to take the money and invest it in banks or buy new cars.
But this assumption of Nigerians has not been confirmed
What the sheikh of the teacher did with the money was to gather his brothers, wealthy friends and disciples and share the money with them and he was left with nothing.
This is the reason why the late Yusuf Maitama Sule called him saying ‘Even if you study like Mr. Gumi, you will not behave like Mr. Gumi.

And before the death of the teacher, he received various honors during his life, such as the teacher from Syria (Sham) named Shaikh Sa’ad Yaseem-Assuri, from whom the teacher (Sheikh Abubakar Mahmud Gumi) learned to read the Qur’an and Tajwid in Gurin. ox.
